For a thoughtfully designed indoor environment
Paints and varnishes come in a wide range of finishes. Pigments largely determine their appearance, while additives give them properties such as water resistance, protection against mould and pests, or heat resistance. Depending on their additives and solvents, paints and varnishes can release substances into indoor air, sometimes long after the surface has dried.
Check the ingredients and choose a product suited to where you will use it. Keep the room well ventilated throughout drying, which can take longer than you might expect.
Note: Certification confirms that a product met the requirements of the applicable testing programme at the time of testing. It does not provide a comprehensive assessment of a product’s suitability for health or of the health effects of an entire indoor environment.
Testing building products against published criteria since 1982.
